Overview

Middle School

Founded in 1899, École des Roches has occupied a distinctive place within French and international education for more than a century. In partnership with École Jeannine Manuel, the Middle school combines academic excellence with a deeply bilingual and internationally minded environment.

In Middle School, our mission is clear: to guide every student, whatever their level on arrival, towards genuine French-English bilingualism while developing the confidence, curiosity, and adaptability to thrive in a changing world.

Following 3ème, students may continue through the Baccalauréat Français, the BFI, or the IB Diploma Programme.

We prepare students for the road ahead, not clear the road for them.

Why École des Roches?

Excellence and Wellbeing, Together

Our approach rests on the conviction that academic excellence and genuine care must go hand in hand. Here is what distinguishes the Middle School at École des Roches.

Small Classes, Real Attention
Teaching takes place primarily in small groups, with a 6:1 student-teacher ratio. Every student is known, followed, and supported — with a culture of individual progress over class rankings.
True Bilingualism from 6ème
From the start, students work towards deep mastery of both French and English — in writing and speech. History-Geography and Sciences are taught in English, providing 8 to 10 English-language periods every week.
Educational Continuity
In Middle School at Ecole des Roches, house life, academic study, and co-curricular activities form a single, coherent educational project. What is learnt in class is enriched by shared experiences; what happens in boarding life nourishes academic success.
Less Screen, More Friends
Screen time is limited and social media strictly supervised. Students anchor themselves in real relationships, cross-cultural friendships, and collective projects — building self-confidence and the ability to cooperate.
Two Languages, Two Ways of Seeing the World

Bilingualism as a Foundation

The goal is not to tick a linguistic box. It is to be able to live, study, and work in two languages — to access two imaginaries, two representations, two ways of thinking about the world.

01
Immersion in Subject Teaching
History-Geography and Science lessons are taught in English. This develops vocabulary, fluency, and oral confidence within real academic content — not language learning in isolation.
02
Language & Literature Classes
Dedicated English Language and Literature courses structure grammar and refine written expression. Together with immersion subjects, this gives students 8 to 10 English-medium periods every week.
03
All Levels Welcome
We welcome students from beginners to those already bilingual. Each student progresses at their level in adapted groups. Progress is rapid — and measurable.
04
Cultural Understanding, Not Just Language
Bilingualism at École des Roches means more than high-level English. It is the capacity to understand the other person — not just what they say, but what they think — and to adapt to the cultural codes that govern human relationships.
